I cannot remember the minister's name, but I clearly remember this illustration. When we are instructed to present ourselves to God as a living sacrifice, that requires an enormous commitment to God, but also immense discipline. Our natural state is rebellion. Being a living sacrifice in perpetual worship of the Father requires our daily sanctification.
I shared this in a Bible study a few months ago and realized, this is a tenant of faith largely absent in 21st century churches. That could explain the decline in church membership and the inefficacy of many Christians. Without sanctification, we cannot be a living sacrifice and all the power of our faith is determined by our ability to worship in spirit and in truth.
May we all be better at staying on that altar in adoration and praise to the One who, by His mercy, grace, and sacrifice, has redeemed us and given us life eternal.
